Fading
Translated as “Fading” by Rina Kikuchi and Carol Hayes

glimmering like a flame on the grass
amethyst buttons glittering
slowly you come down this way
a mountain dove listens for the lost voice
rays of sunlight slant through the branches
a green terrace and thirsty petals
I remind myself to wind my watch

Translated as “In White” by Sawako Nakayasu

Flickering above the grass like a flame
An amethyst button sparkles
And you descend slowly
The turtle dove lends its ear to a lost voice.
A mesh of sunbeams cuts through the treetops.
Green terrace and dried flowers.
I remember to wind my clock.

芝生のうへを焔のやうにゆれ

アミシストの釦がきらめき

あなたはゆつくりと降りてくる

山鳩は失つた声に耳を傾ける。

梢をすぎる日ざしのあみ目。
